Ingredients

Serves : 4
  • 1 cup kandipappu/toor daal


  • 2 tomatoes finely chopped


  • 2 onions finely chopped


  • 1 small ginger finely chopped


  • 1 tablespoon seasoning(mustard/aavalu, jeera/jeelakarra, urad daal/minapappu)


  • 1 bunch of coriander


  • 1 big stem of curry leaves


  • 4 tablespoon oil


  • 1 cup water


  • 1 tablespoon salt


  • 1 tablespoon redchilly powder


  • 1 tablespoon garam masala optional


  • 2 to 3 dry red chilly


  • 2 green chilly slit

Directions

  • Dry roast toor daal in a pan until it changes colour
  • Transfer to a plate and let it cool
  • In a pressure cooker add roasted toor daal and water till daal is drowned also salt, turmeric, a little soda
  • Sometimes daal doesn't cook well if we don't add soda so it's better to add a pinch of soda while cooking daal
  • Meanwhile in other pan add oil,ginger and all seasoning after we hear crackling sound add onions
  • After onions turn translucent add 🍅 tomatoes, salt, turmeric and saute them
  • They turn mushy then add red chilly powder, garam masala and saute them
  • Now take cooked daal and mash it well and add this to the tomato mixture
  • Cook for few minutes and in other pan add oil/ghee and add mustard, red chilly powder, dry red chilly, curry leaves, slit green chilly
  • Add this to the daal and garnish with coriander and serve with jeera rice
